OWC outs first enterprise-grade 2.5-inch SSDs
Other World Computing (OWC) on Tuesday released its first solid state drive range, which it is touting as the fastest and most reliable 2.5-inch SATA SSD in the field. The Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD can be had in up to a 200GB capacity, along with two smaller sizes, and is compatible with either Macs or PCs. Thanks to a newer SandForce processor, the drives are said to keep their optimal 260MBps read and write speeds with 0.1ms latency.
The enterprise-grade drives work at up to the full 3Gbps speed of SATA II and use Error Correction Code as well as SandForce's RAISE technology to avoid corruption and extend the lifespan of the flash memory cells. The 50GB Mercury Extreme Enterprise SSD is priced at $230, the 100GB version at $400, and the 200GB model costs $780.

I'll wait until the prices drop.
But I do remember buying my first external hard drive. I paid $540 for an external 30MB SCSI drive.
