Walmart says no plans to carry Google phone

Walmart today moved quickly to shut down talk that it would carry the Nexus One. Company spokesman Ravi Jariwala describes the posting as a "technical error" and that it's working with its wireless cellular partner, Let’s Talk, to take down the entry. It's not explained why the entry appeared initially, but Walmart stresses that the posting was not a leak.

We have no plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at this time," Jariwala said, though he didn't touch on the accuracy of the multi-carrier network support.

Google has so far tried to upend the traditional phone sales model by only selling the phone through its website, regardless of whether or not the customer is buying an unlocked or T-Mobile version. The strategy is meant to put a greater focus on the phones themselves and give customers clearer options when they choose their service. [via SAI]
