Audio sent to dock via Bluetooth

Google on Wednesday introduced the Desktop Dock for the Nexus One. The accessory works as a dock to charge the smartphone and connect the audio output to a separate stereo using an RCA cable. When docked, the phone can display a clock app which provides weather information and alarm functionality. The interface can also be used to dim the screen, view slideshows, or play music stored on the phone.

Confirming earlier reports based on FCC documents, the dock pairs with the Nexus One via Bluetooth. The first time a user docks the phone, it is automatically paired with the base. The wireless connection is utilized for transmitting audio from the phone to the dock, while users can still use a Bluetooth headset to answer calls while leaving the phone on the base.

The Desktop Dock is now available directly from Google's online store for $45.
