Sanyo adds two Xacti dual-role HD cameras in Japan

updated 02:50 pm EST, Wed January 27, 2010

Cameras take both video and still photos

Sanyo announced two additions to its Xacti lineup, the DMX-CG110 NR, and the DMX-SH11. Both cameras feature 16GB internal memory, SDXC expansion up to 64GB, and both MPEG-4 and AVC (H.264) format, suited for posting videos online. Both are part of Sanyo's "dual camera" line, taking both HD video and HD still photos.

The upright format DMX-CG110 NR puts the emphasis on ease of use, an expression of the company's "handy formats for daily use" motto. It weighs in at just 6.2 ounces with both battery and SD card installed.

The DMX-CG110 features a 12X zoom when using Sanyo's "Double-Range Zoom" to switch between two zoom ranges at the push of a button. Still photos are handled with a 14.4MP high-speed CMOS sensor. The camera also offers Windows 7 compatibility, AV out, an HDMI/RCA video port, and a USB 2.0 connection.

Sanyo claims the horizontal format Xacti DMX-SH11 is the "smallest, lightest, and thinnest" of cameras in this class, weighing just 7.2oz and measuring a scant 1.7in wide, 4.6in long, and 2.3in high.

For still photos, the DMX-SH11 offers both a 3.5MP CMOS as well as a 35mm wide-angle lens with a 30X "Advanced Zoom" function. The DMX-SH11 can record video in either 1080p or 720p as well as Sanyo's characteristic 192x108, 600FPS slow-motion mode. Ease of use functions include digital image stabilization and Face Chaser automatic focusing. Connectivity is through a mini HDMI port. Both cameras are also compatible with Eye-Fi SD cards, which use WiFi to automatically upload pictures and videos to the user's PC.

Sanyo's DMX-CG110 NR, and the DMX-SH11, are expected to hit the Japanese market in late February. No international distribution date has been announced.
