Samsung began making three 3D HDTVs

Samsung announced on Tuesday that it is the first company to begin mass producing 3D LED and 3D LCD TVs. The first sets that went into production in January include 40-, 46- and 55-inch full-HD 3D TVs that rely on 3D active shutter glasses and use Samsung's 240Hz technology. The TVs can also play regular 2D content when 3D content is not playing.

The 3D images are reproduced without interfering between the left and right eye images thanks to a 20 percent reduction in response time, now at less than four milliseconds. The glasses depend on stereoscopy and first block the left and then the right lens to cause a slight lag for producing lifelike 3D images. Samsung showed off a prototype of the 55-inch set back in October.

Despite the announcement, Samsung has not revealed when the three 3D TVs will go on sale or what they will be priced at.
