Zeon outs phase difference film to boost contrast

Japan-based Zeon has introduced a new type of polarizing film dubbed phase difference film that is said to increase the contrast of the screens to viewers by a factor of ten. The film is made for OLED displays that use in-plane switching (IPS) technology and inhibits the diffusion of light from the backlight panels. TV manufacturers who use such technology include Panasonic, Hitachi and Samsung.

The film is made of Cyclo Olefin Polymer and is also said to widen the viewing angle of the screen it's applied to. Zeon has plans to begin mass producing the films later this year to LCD TV manufacturers for sets that are larger than 40 inches. [via OLED-Display]
