Dell's MB Air clone now half original price

Dell has silently cut the price of the Adamo 13 to trim its costs. A base 1.4GHz model like the one tested here now costs $999, or $500 less than its last price cut just a few months ago. The system is now about half the $1,999 it cost when launched about 10 months ago and hasn't received a feature upgrade

The faster 2.1GHz version has also received a price drop and has fallen from $2,299 to $1,799. It too remains static and improves on the basic version by adding both the improved chip as well as a 3G modem, double the RAM and double the SSD drive space.

No reason was immediately given for the cut, but the move is likely an attempt to clear out stock. It's uncertain whether this will involve the use of ultra-low voltage Core i5/i7 parts or else a scrapping of the PC in favor of the thinner but more expensive Adamo XPS.

Dell openly positioned the Adamo 13 as a competitor to the MacBook Air but has so far had relatively tepid reaction both due to its high price and relatively low performance. Apple has used the speedier Core 2 Duo S since it released the Air a year before the Adamo and has instituted two performance upgrades, both of which have much faster GeForce 9400M video.
