Alienware M11x to ship March 1st
Quickly dampening leaks, Alienware this afternoon started taking orders for its M11x ultraportable. The stock $799 trim is modest and comes with a 1.3GHz Pentium, 2GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and the system's all-important GeForce GT 335M video. A 1.3-megapixel webcam is its only other major hardware extra built-in.
Options for the system let it scale up significantly, ranging from a $100 upgrade to a 1.3GHz Core 2 Duo to as much as 8GB of RAM ($350), a 500GB rotating hard drive ($150) or a 256GB solid-state drive ($570). Bluetooth, a Qualcomm Gobi dual-mode 3G chipset and an external DVD burner can also reach the system during the custom-order process.
The early ordering comes at a cost as even a standard M11x won't ship until March 1st, nearly two months after the PC was first unveiled at CES.
