LG Display to bring out OLED TVs starting in 2010

LG Display will begin mass production of 20-inch OLED panels later this year, said Vice President Won Kim. The company will then build 30-inch screens in 2011 and 40-inch panels in 2012 based on the OLED technology, which allows for brighter screens, more vivid colors and lower power consumption.

"They may be expensive, but it will be possible to buy a 40-inch class OLED TV in 2012," Kim promised.

Thus far, LG is offering a 15-inch OLED TV in Korea, priced at the equivalent of about $2,500. If or when this TV or the new sets will be offered in North America is unknown. [via OLED-Display]
