iPad for Verizon still on track?

Talks for VZ iPad said still underway
Despite its absence at Apple's event last week, a Verizon-ready iPad is still under discussion, an alleged source at the carrier says. The tip to Fox News' Clayton Morris, who made the previous assertion, insists that an agreement should be reached in the near term. No explanation has been given, however, for the supposedly stalled talks.
The prior rumor had claimed that Apple was in rushed talks with AT&T and Verizon less than a week before what became the iPad event; it's implied that no deal was reached in time for the press gathering. So far, Apple has only said it plans to offer 3G versions of the iPad through AT&T, though unlike with the iPhone it made no mention of an exclusive and may only be limited by internal hardware.
A Verizon model if it exists at all may depend heavily on Verizon's network plans. Apple has dismissed CDMA as "dead" but could use Verizon's fledgling LTE 4G network when it goes live later in 2010. It also hasn't explicitly downplayed EVDO and theoretically has the choice of a dual-mode 3G chipset that could support both AT&T and Verizon.

Ain't gonna happen until Verizon has a substantial 4G network, if then.
