Fujifilm shows toughened and fashionable compacts

FujiFilm on Tuesday introduced two more point and shoot digital cameras, including the company's first rugged FinePix camera, the XP10, and the chic-styled FinePix Z70. The XP10 is resistant to water, extreme temperatures and dust, while featuring a 12-megapixel CCD sensor and a 2.7-inch LCD. Its lens musters a 5x optical zoom.

The FinePix XP10 can be submerged in up to 10 feet of water, dropped from up to 3 feet and endure 14-degree Fahrenheit temperatures without any ill effects. Otherwise the camera has an automatic Facebook and YouTube upload feature that lets users earmark photos and videos especially for the social networking sites. The included Fuji software will then upload these creations when the camera is synced.

The camera can also record 720p video, has tracking autofocus for fast moving subjects as well as both movie editing and blog modes. There is also an automatic scene recognition mode, face detection and automatic red-eye removal. Image stabilization is digital.

The FinePix Z70 has a 12-megapixel camera with a 2.7-inch LCD and the same lens with 5x optical zoom but packages it into a thinner and less durable shape. Its buttons are LED illuminated for easier operation in dark environments, and there exists the same automatic Facebook and YouTube upload features.

Users can also record 720p videos and invoke special presets like Blog Mode. Tracking focus, red eye removal and the scene recognition mode are shared with the XP10.

The FinePix XP10 will ship late this month for $200 and will be available in silver, black or green. The Z70 is expected earlier and priced at $150, in either black, silver blue and dark red.
