Samsung outs F3EG hard drives with green parts

Samsung this week introduced a new range of more environmentally friendly internal hard drives with the F3EG series. The EcoGreen F3EG replaces the F2EG and has a larger, 2TB capacity made up of four 500GB platters. Samsung applied its so-called EcoTriangle technology that is made up of low-power, low-noise components that also have no halogen content.

Compared to competing drives, the F3EG is said to use 40 percent less power at idle and 10 percent less in read and write modes. They use a SATA II 3Gbps interface and have either 16MB or 32MB of buffer memory. The new drives will be available in either 1.5TB or 2TB capacities and at respective prices of $140 and $180. Both should be available.
