Ricoh CX3 gets new sensor, 720p HD recording

Ricoh has added a new model to its digital point and shoot cameras with the CX3. The camera improves upon the existing CX2 with the capability to record 720p HD video and has a 10-megapixel CMOS sensor that is back-illuminated for capturing more detail in low-light environments. Its special construction also means it can reduce noise and has greater sensitivity.

Carried over is the 10.7x zoom wide angle zoom lens. The dynamic double shot mode has been improved upon by letting users pick the tone range priority. Automatic scene mode detection has also been added, while five new levels of dynamic range expansion effect are likewise new. For fast action, the auto focus is able to track moving subjects and the camera has a continuous shoot mode of five frames per second. A 3-inch LCD screen frames and displays photos and videos.

The CX3 will go on sale later in February priced at the equivalent of about $440, though North American pricing or release dates haven't been mentioned; few Ricoh cameras so far reach the US. It will be available in black, purple, and pink on gray.
