Third Verizon Android phone packs MOTOBLUR
Verizon today ended months of speculation by launching the Motorola Devour. The carrier's third Android phone, it represents a lower-cost alternative to the Droid with a 3.1-inch touchscreen and a 3-megapixel camera. It also veers away from the Droid's use of stock Android 2.0 by using the MOTOBLUR social networking layer, much like the Cliq at T-Mobile.
The Devour still has a sliding QWERTY keyboard but drops the directional pad for an optical trackpad that can be used for one-handed steering even when the phone is closed. 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi are all standard, and media-focused owners get a pre-inserted 8GB microSDHC card.
Verizon hasn't named a price as it doesn't expect the Devour to reach its stores until March. However, it will very likely cost significantly less than the $200 of the Droid when attached to a two-year contract for a smartphone plan.
