Vivaz passing FCC tests reveals it's near

Sony Ericsson's Vivaz is nearing a US release, as has been indicated by its passing through the FCC approval process. Its official name is the U5a in the FCC documents, and the device should be significant as it's one of the few US-bound phones to date that can record 720p HD videos using its 8MP camera. Otherwise, the Symbian S60 5th Edition-powered device is still fast with a 720MHz processor.

The filing specifically confirms that the handset will run on the 850MHz and 1900MHz bands used by AT&T and most Canadian carriers.

Other specs include a 3.2-inch touchscreen with a 360x640 resolution as well as GPS, Wi-Fi, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an 8GB memory card. The device will have Google Maps, Facebook and Twitter preloaded. Pricing and a US release date remain unknown, however, and may leave the Vivaz to unlocked sales if it isn't picked up by AT&T.
