Judge finds RIM innocent of patent infringements

A UK high court judge has found that BlackBerry maker RIM does not infringe on a Motorola patent. In a London court, the judge both said the patent itself was invalid and that, even if the patent held by Motorola was valid, RIM's communications systems didn't infringe on its claims. The two companies had a cross-license agreement until 2007, and since then have involved in public disputes that have included an ITC complaint begun last month.

It's not yet certain what will happen with the ITC investigation. The US agency has yet to begin work and isn't necessarily obligated to follow decisions about UK patents. [via PhonesReview]
