Jobs may woo Time for iPad magazines

Following visits to newspapers, Apple chief Steve Jobs has been seen on Friday visiting the offices of Time Inc. The New York City visit is believed to have involved showing the iPad both to the Time publisher's chief executive Ann Moore as well as to a small number of magazine editors. What deals were discussed, if any, isn't known.

The new update from Fortune points to Jobs being on a sweeping publisher-oriented tour to rally support for not just newspapers but magazines as well. At the iPad unveiling, the Apple head initially showed only books through its own store and had left periodicals to third-party apps like the New York Times Reader; the absence of a built-in solution made some question how Apple would compete against e-readers like the Kindle and Nook, where subscriptions are a significant design feature.

    That's funny.

"What deals were discussed, if any, isn't known."

No, he just put the iPad on the table. They sat around and looked at each other for a while. Then Jobs stood and, without a word, left the building.

You're funny Rezzz. That's a fine style of writing.

However, his visit doesn't mean any deal was discussed. He could have just been showing the benefits of the iPad for digital media. I'd laugh if any of those people at the meeting said something like "Meh, what advantage does this have over a netbook" or "We're betting the farm on the HP Slate."

It's funny. I've been heavily into tech my whole life and still was impressed at speed at which the iPad moved from application to application. I'm amazed at what even an iPod Touch can do. And yet there are people saying that the iPad is weak tech. I'm amazed at what most high-end smartphones can accomplish and so many people take this stuff for granted as being nothing special. I guess the younger you are you don't see the progression of tech. I'd think if Steve walked into a meeting room and showed the iPad to 40 to 50 year old executives that maybe used BlackBerrys, their jaws would drop. If the average consumer isn't impressed with the iPad then I really don't know what would impress them. I'm not saying I wouldn't want a couple of additional features, but it's a darn good start. The consumer will decide if it's a winner or a clunker.

    TIME Magazine?

Besides doctor's offices, who ever reads TIME magazine anymore?

Well, if you blew $300 million last year, your parent company probably has the means to try and save you through a deal with Apple.

For that matter, NYT isn't much better off.
