UK firm preps "iTablet" as response to Apple

X2 iTablet runs Win XP or Linux, netbook hardware
Relative newcomer X2 Computing today decided to seize on the frenzy surrounding the iPad by launching its own tablet. The conspicuously named iTablet follows "hot on the heels of Apple" and carries a 10- or 12-inch touchscreen; multi-touch will be optional. Rather than use tablet-optimized software, however, the device will use Windows 7 (Windows XP shown for reference) or Linux and should get Flash support as a result.
The hardware is equally unremarkable and uses typical netbook parts, including a 1.6GHz Atom, rotating hard drives up to 250GB, a 1.3-megapixel webcam and expansion that includes three USB ports as well as options for HDMI output and a 3G modem. X2's choices consequently make the system nearly 1.4 inches thick, or almost three times deeper than its Apple competitor.
Prices aren't mentioned, but the iTablet isn't expected to ship to the UK until April, or in time to catch the 3G version of the iPad. [via Pocket-lint]

a. Isn't it funny how the geek community has poo-pooed the iPad, yet Windows manufacturers are already rushing to copycat a product that has been pronounced "a flop" and "full of fail" by the self-proclaimed knowitalls?
b. PS. I'm sure the same people who whine about the iPad not supporting flash will rush out to buy this instead ... "multitouch optional" and "does not run touch-enabled apps" and "no app store" and "runs crappy Windows" will be no barrier compared to getting Their Precious Flash.
c. Boy am I going to feel stupid when I see some guy at Starbucks who can m********* to his flash-driven p*** site or play his favourite effeminate Facebook game RIGHT THERE while I look on helplessly.
Not.

It's not big enough!!! At 1.4 inches thick, how much does it weigh??? One ton or two??? Shame no mention of a price, to laugh at as well. Number of apps; none. Number of videos; none. Number of games; none. Sounds like a well thought out product!!!!!
It's going to be the year of the iPad.

That battery lasts how long?
And a "rotating HD?" Seriously? How long 'till the HD fails when people are holding it at odd angles and ish?

But just think how much weight you'll lose holding it!
God, and I thought XP looked a pain to use on Netbooks.

Don't they get it? No one "wants" Windows!

I think every new device that tries to run some version of Windows – and do so with sufficiently desirable features – keeps proving what Mac users have always known...
NO ONE REALLY WANTS WINDOWS! Here we have a sufficiently attractive tablet that includes Flash support, a webcam, and far more storage than an Apple iPad, yet it will likely fade into obscurity after its launch. If it weren't for the fact that people were forced to use Windows in their workplace during the late-80's/early-90's Windows and Microsoft would hardly be relevant in the consumer market.

The iPad naysayers criticized the iPad because they said it ran the iPhone OS instead of the Mac OS X, etcetera etcetera, and this is the best they can come up with so far? I'd rather carry a MacBook than that ugly piece of junk.

... notice how awkwardly its being held. Compare that to the way Scott Forstall holds the iPad face-front in Apple's promotional video.
PS. NO WEBCAM -- FAIL!!!! :D

iTablet is a good name, and maybe iSlate, from someone else.
