Ends series of suits going back to 2007

Samsung today announced a cross-licensing deal with Sharp that ends a series of disputes between the two companies. The deal also gives each company access to technology covered by patents owned by the other, according to a regulatory filing made by Samsung. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sharp and Samsung had sued each other and filed complaints with the US International Trade Commission in 2007 over the use of certain LCD technology used in displays with wide viewing angles. Last June, the ITC ruled in Samsung's favor, banning certain Sharp high-def LCD TVs from the US market. Samsung then filed another suit in December 2009.

The deal cancels all previous rulings made by the ITC, including the one made last June. [via Telecoms Korea]
