Most Android 2.1 features to reach Droid soon
Motorola today told Droid owners that an update to Android 2.1 should be pushed to their phones sometime this week. The release should arrive over the air and will be accompanied by news of when the Cliq and Dext should get their own upgrades. The Droid gets the update first as its stock Android lets Motorola avoid extra testing.
No specific details have surfaced for the update, but a leak earlier today points out that the upgrade won't be a direct port of the Nexus One update from last week. The lesser performance of the Droid rules out animated backgrounds, and the grid view as well as the 3D app launcher are similarly missing. Goggles and the new weather and news widgets similarly come aboard.
All the features essentially put the Droid on better footing than the Milestone, which already has multi-touch in key apps but doesn't come preloaded with Goggles or the new widgets.
