Parts leak hints at taller 2010 iPhone

Next iPhone to be taller based on repair info

Apple's fourth-generation iPhone could mark the first significant change in the screen area if a part obtained by repair outfit iResQ is evidence. What's claimed to be the front glass is about a quarter-inch taller than the existing platform and may have a slightly different screen as a result. It also appears to move the proximity sensor to above the top speaker and glues the touchscreen layer to the LCD where the iPhone 3G and 3GS are separate.

Without a functioning LCD, it's not clear whether the screen itself will change. Many have called for an increase in resolution that should now be possible with updates to the iPhone OS. Competitive pressure may dictate such a change as many devices, such as the Droid, now use 3.5- or 3.7-inch touchscreens with either 800x480 or 854x480 displays.

Visuals are expected to play a significant part in the 2010 refresh and could include a 5-megapixel camera as well as a variant of Apple's A4 chip, which is fast enough to play 720p video.

Even if this is photo is accurate...

It appears as thought the screen size (area) is the same as before. Terrible conclusion drawn by the reporter.

Well, the "reporter" doesn't actually say the screen is bigger: " may have a slightly different screen as a result." It used to be that reporters published facts. Now, conjecture and rumours are just good enough for a web-bite. Be a good citizen, will ya, and lower your standards. (forgive the sarcasm, not meant to be personal) Cheers.

    Case change?

They could be changing the case curvature at the front and then not much difference at all in height. Or it could be a "prototype part" shipped in error. It also looks a slight, very slight, bit wider. Same factors contribute but to a lessor extent to maintain "hand feel". I'd like to see the back of the part please!

Maybe accommodation for a front mounted camera accounts for additional height also. Just behind the tint or the half silver hides it and the LED flash!

    Proximity sensor

moving that is a REALLY good thing, only that speaks volumes that this "rumor" is correct.
