Algiz 7 tablet PC is ruggedized, has Win 7

Commercial portable electronics device maker Handheld on Tuesday announced its Algiz 7 rugged tablet PC. It runs on Windows 7 Professional and has a 7-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Despite its design, however, the tablet doesn't support touch and instead relies on physical buttons. As one would expect, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor powers it, while there is 2GB of RAM and onboard storage comes in the form of a 64GB SSD. The tablet is otherwise well-equipped, with a Bluetooth module, Wi-Fi and a GPS sensor.

There is also a 2-megapixel camera built-in, along with an LED light. A 3G module with support for GSM/UMTS/EVDO networks is optional. The Algiz 7 is also Gobi 2000-ready, allowing users to connect to GSM and CDMA wireless networks from anywhere in the world that they can use their cellphones.

The screen of the Algiz 7 uses Handheld's MaxView technology to ensure easy viewing in bright, outdoor environments. Its IP65 rating and MIL-STD-810G compliance mean the tablet can withstand a set standard of humidity, vibration, shock and temperature extremes. The tablet weighs 2.4lbs.

An uncommon feature is the dual, 2,400mAh hot-swappable battery that does not require a system shutdown.

The Algiz 7 will begin shipping in March, though pricing has not been announced.
