Google catches up in basic help

Google has quietly put up its first phone support option for the Nexus One. It's currently limited to dealing with sales and shipping but is the first direct, live option for the Android phone. The company had previously limited its own help to e-mail and had redirected all live support to either T-Mobile, for carrier issues, or directly to hardware creator HTC.

The support issues have been considered a partial factor behind slow Nexus One sales in its first month. Without retail sales to provide support or phone help from Google itself, most purchases have been limited to technically experienced buyers that need only a small amount of aid and may already have experience with Android.

In comparison, the iPhone the Nexus One has typically been pitched against is supported by both Apple and AT&T with phone and retail support for both.

    Too little, too late...

That's OK. This is a smartphone built for tech-geeks and they don't need much help, anyway. They'll figure some way to get around the minor problems.

    Google doesn't know everything

And they have proven it. There will always be a need for tech support on technical stuff. There aren't enough tech geeks around to buy all the gadgets these companies need to make money.
