First Mac and PC compatible in ScanSnap line

Fujitsu introduced its latest portable scanner, the ScanSnap S1300. Measuring just under 11.2 inches across and weighing 3.1 pounds, the S1300 is the smallest portable duplex scanner in the Fujitsu lineup and the company's first scanner designed for full cross-platform functionality for Windows PCs and Macs. The S1300 scans up to 8 pages per minute at 300dpi for color or 600dpi for grayscale.

The scanner handles documents as small as 2 inches square and up to legal size, and includes a document feeder that holds up to 10 letter size pages and handles double sided pages automatically. A one-touch feature allows allows users to scan and convert documents into searchable PDF files. Software is included to create editable Word and Excel files from scans and to export to contact management software such as ACT! or Entourage.

The device can be powered entirely by USB, but requires two open ports: one for data transfer and one to supply power. Using USB power also cuts the speed of the scanner roughly in half. An AC adapter is available to supply full speed and free up a single port.

The ScanSnap S1300 is available through resellers or directly from the Fujitsu website for $295.

    New Feature?

I might think of replacing my S300M if they've removed the artificial 1000 page limit.
