T-Mobile gives myTouch new jack, 8GB preloaded

T-Mobile today lived up to rumors by launching the myTouch 3G 3.5mm Jack. Like its name suggests, the new version has the same 3.5mm headphone jack as the Fender Edition and no longer has to use an adapter just to use third-party audio. It also represents an overall upgrade with a larger 288MB of RAM, an 8GB bundled microSDHC card, and the use of Swype, a keyboard layer that lets owners make continuous gestures to type faster than they normally can on touchscreens.

Swype is also coming to T-Moblie's version of the HTC HD2 in the spring.

The updated myTouch 3G still runs Android 1.6 and has all the other familiar hardware features, including its 3.2-inch 480x320 touchscreen, 3G, GPS and Wi-Fi. Accordingly, T-Mobile is charging the same $150 on contract as for the original model. Both online and retail stores should have the phone today.
