Nokia may have 'superphone' next week

Nokia could upstage Mobile World Congress next week with an 'ultimate' device of its own if a rumor pans out. As part of a relabeling effort for all its smartphones, Nokia would launch the N8, the first device based on Symbian^3. Appropriately, it would carry a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen that supports the new multi-touch interface.

The form factor isn't described in detail, but the N8 would be a very high-end device with a 12-megapixel camera. It would support 720p recording and HDMI output for full-size playback and may also support DivX, although this last point isn't certain.

In addition to the N8, the same inside information suggests Nokia is planning an Ovi Store update that would give capable phones TV show downloads that could come through a widget, not just the main portal. They also provide color on Nokia's device strategy: in addition to confirming phones like the C3 and C5 as well as the organization into the new C, E, X and N devices, it adds a fifth category, the S series. This would be limited to "very high end" and special edition phones.

It's not known when the N8, or any other phones unveiled next week, would reach stores.
