TiVo Premiere to get UI overhaul, apps?

TiVo's next DVR could have fully HD native UI

The TiVo Premiere if launched at TiVo's special event next month could center on an interface revamp, a tip says this afternoon. The software would finally take full advantage of HDTV resolutions. It may also include a streamlined way of loading apps and media as well as improved search.

The update if it comes about would also represent a sea change for TiVo as it would accompany a phase-out of Series 2 DVRs, which have been in the company's lineup for the majority of TiVo's existence and have to date been kept around to accommodate non-HD video. Only Series 3 devices like the original Series 3, the HD and the HD XL would get the new interface.

No new info has surfaced regarding the Premiere, but apart from multi-stream CableCARD support its main changes are likely to be a smaller shape and a larger capacity hard drive.
