RIM promises big announcement at MWC

BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) on Thursday posted a Twitter update that says the company will make a "big announcement" next week at the Mobile World Congress show in Barcelona. No other details are given, other than that users should keep an eye on the company's blog during the week of February 15th for the announcement. Third-party global distributor Brightpoint published the claim, but as one of RIM's closer partners has gained credibility.

While little is known for certain as to what will come from the Canadian company, it may be a new handset as many companies often use the Barcelona show for introductions; doubt exists on the subject as there haven't been leaks that would point to an imminent release. More likely, it will be an announcement related to BlackBerry OS or key third-party apps used on the handsets. [via Clove]
