LG EL9500 OLED set due in US soon

LG will bring its 15-inch OLED TV to the US by the middle of the year, company staff said at the Integrated Systems Europe show. Already available in Korea as the EL9500, the screen is the first production OLED TV to reach a true HD resolution, peaking at 720p (1366x768). The extremely high contrast of OLED gives the set "amazing" image quality, according to those at the show.

American pricing for the set hasn't been revealed but is likely to run under the price of the Sony XEL-1. Although it still costs $2,500, the earlier 11-inch set is now two years old and should cost considerably less to make. LG, Sony and others have since developed lower-cost manufacturing techniques.
