Samsung i8520 Halo to also pack DLP
Samsung has inadvertently revealed a new Android flagship in one of its spec sheets. The i8520 -- to be labeled the Halo in a formal launch tomorrow -- should be Samsung's first phone using Android 2.1 and should be the company's most capable smartphone to date. It will use an even larger 3.7-inch version of the Super AMOLED screen found in the Wave and will have support for a DLP pico projector with a customized interface for the low-res but large screen area.
Inside, the phone will also upstage the Wave by carrying a sharper 8-megapixel camera and 16GB of internal storage in addition to matching it on newer features like 720p video recording and 802.11n Wi-Fi. Bluetooth is still limited to the 2.1 standard, however, and it isn't expected to carry the same TV-level imaging engine.
Samsung is due to ship the i8520 Halo to Asia and Europe in the summer and isn't known to have a US-native 3G version in the works.
The new phone is part of a major upgrade in smartphones at Samsung, which has produced key devices like the Omnia series but has had little success breaking through against competitors like the iPhone or even rival Android phones from HTC. Most of its lineup in the past has depended on Symbian and Windows Mobile that have fallen out of favor through their lack of features and modern interfaces. [via Engadget]

Nice interface
I like that grid of icons with a little 'dock' of the four most frequently used at the bottom. Where did they get that idea?
