Canadian store hints at new MacBook Pros

A series of placeholder Apple SKUs have shown in Best Buy Canada's inventory system today that hint at new MacBook Pro and possible iMac updates. A total of 18 distinct items have shown in the system. At least three of these also have additional English and French versions, a division not uncommon for Canadian Macs as each needs different keyboards.

The contact for Gizmodo also claims to have seen evidence of high-end iMacs that aren't in Best Buy's inventory as of yet, but doesn't have details.

These placements come on the heels of a smaller but similar leak from the US and often occur not long before an Apple computer replacement, although these clues don't necessarily point to an update coming within a specific time span. As Intel has almost entirely replaced its mainstream mobile Core 2 Duo processors with the Core i3, i5 and i7, Apple has virtually no choice but to introduce systems like an expected Core i7 MacBook Pro and likely lower-end Core i5 models. The iMac isn't as likely to get an update, although the 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo is itself is being phased out at Intel by dual-core Core i5 chips.

Does a Best Buy employee wanna chime in and tell us the significance of the different department classes 601 vs. 602 (MacBooks vs. iMacs?)

    Re: Software/hardware...

I'd guess 602 is hardware and 601 is software, hence the languages (English or French). I'll also guess the three software SKUs are a new iWork, iWork Family Pack, and the new Aperture.

But why would they need a dummy sku for aperture when it is an actual announced product.

And that wouldn't explain the need for 18 (?) new SKUs for hardware? I know we can't expect Apple to release a slew of new hardware at one time, because Apple doesn't do 'slew' in hardware. Three versions is the most consumers can handle before their minds explode at the possibilities.
