LG Skinny Frame HDTVs are under 1-inch thick

LG on Wednesday introduced two new ultra-thin plasma HDTVs that are just under one inch (25mm) thick. Appropriately nicknamed Skinny Frame, they include the 60-inch XCanvas 60PK550 and the 50-inch 50PK550. The sets are about half the thickness of LG's current plasmas. Both still have 600MHz refresh rates, common to modern plasma HDTVs and key to preserving detail in fast-moving scenes.

Other features of the Skinny Frame HDTVs include a USB port that allows users to play back photos, videos and music, three HDMI ports and LG's adaptive backlighting that lowers power consumption.

The 50-inch plasma will cost the equivalent of nearly $1,500, while the 60-inch set will be priced at about $3,325. LG has not revealed plans to bring the sets to markets other than its native Korea but usually exports them within a few months. [via Akihabara]
