Toshiba preps 2.5-inch, 600GB enterprise drive

Toshiba enters enterprise HDD market
Toshiba has entered the enterprise drive market with a range that includes the industry's largest capacity model, at 600GB. The 2.5-inch drive is a product of Toshiba's purchase of Fujitsu. The MBF2600RC range also has a 300GB and 450GB model, and all three feature 10,025RPM spin speeds.
The family has a 6Gbps SAS interface, a 16MB data buffer and an internal transfer rate of 216MB per second. The areal density of 595Mbit/mm2 is also claimed to be the highest in the class, exceeding even that of 3.5-inch drives. To reduce power use, the disks spin at slower than peak rates when not in use, drawing just 2.5W.
Despite the announcement, Toshiba has not released ship dates or pricing information.
