Line-up set to replace current Z-series

Intel's next Atom platform has allegedly been nicknamed "Oak Trail," according to a PC Watch report. The unconfirmed rumor suggests Oak Trail components will serve as a replacement for the current Z-series lineup found in a number of MIDs and netbooks, such as the VAIO P. The upcoming CPUs are believed to be Windows-capable variants of the current Moorestown offerings.

The Oak Trail processors are expected to provide improved power efficiency compared to Intel's current N-series, although additional details have yet to surface.

A separate rumor suggests Intel is set to released updates to several Pine Trail chips. The CPUs are said to be the first Atom components to support DDR3 RAM. [via Pocketables]
