Samsung AQ100 and SL605 launch
Samsung held a late unveiling for multiple new cameras at PMA today, including two new semi-rugged compacts. Of these, the AQ100 is the most durable and is designed for shallow water shooting. It keeps working at depths as low as 10 feet and has a special Aqua mode that tunes settings to get better shots in an underwater environment.
Regardless of where it shoots, the 12-megapixel camera always has access to a 5X lens that keeps all its zoom internal to prevent leaks. It captures video at 720p and has the full suite of auto scene features.
The SL605 is meant more for casual above-ground use and has both an anti-scratch coating as well as rubberized contact points to prevent against everyday problems with dust. Its 5X lens uses a more conventional barrel, and it shoots standard definition (640x480) video in addition to 12-megapixel stills.
Both cameras are due in spring, with the AQ100 carrying a $200 price point and the SL605 sitting at $130.
