EON18 gaming notebook officially launched


Origin's EON18 gaming notebook introduced in November is now on sale. The highly-customizable PC has an 18.4-inch display with a native 1080p resolution, while processor choices range from a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo to an Extreme Edition 2GHz Core i7. Video involves either one or two GeForce GTX 280M or 285M chipsets, each with 1GB of RAM. Buyers can also specify up to 8GB of system RAM.

Available hard drives include a 500GB, 7,200RPM unit or a 640GB 5,400RPM spinner, but up to three 250GB SSDs can also be ordered. They are preloaded with either Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate. The optical drives on offer include a dual-layer DVD burner as well as a Blu-ray reader or burner.

There are also eight programmable gaming buttons above the full-sized keyboard and keypad, along with a Synaptics touchpad. More, touch-sensitive buttons can be lit up by an LED color of the user's choice, and can turn off the webcam, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or launch the browser, among other functions. Connections include HDMI 1.3b with HDCP support, a VGA port, and optical audio output. There are four speakers integrated into the chassis.

Origin is made up of former Alienware employees and offers buyers nearly unlimited color and design options for the exteriors of their PCs.

The EON18 weighss about 12.5 pounds and so is meant as a desktop replacement rather than a true portable. Pricing for the EON18 begins at $2,299.
