Rogers says Liquid e first Android 2.1 in Canada

Rogers has quietly scored a small coup by becoming the first carrier in North America to pick up the Acer Liquid e. The exclusive deal will allegedly make it the only Android 2.1 device in Canada when it launches in the spring, although this is potentially up for debate. Telus' version of the Motorola Milestone currenly runs Android 2.0 and is upgradeable to 2.1.

It should also be the first Acer phone of any kind attached to a North American carrier.

The full-touch smartphone is potentially faster than the Milestone with a 768MHz Snapdragon and should keep pace in other areas, such as the 5-megapixel camera, 7.2Mbps 3G and Wi-Fi. Motorola's phone has a slight edge in its screen, as the Liquid e's display is both smaller (3.5 inches) and lower resolution (800 pixels high versus 854).

Rogers expects pricing and other details to appear closer to launch day.
