Sony wishes to introduce 3D digital camera

Among other planned 3D products, such as HDTVs, PCs, gaming consoles and professional cameras, Sony executives are also trying to have the company enter the consumer 3D digital camera market. In an interview, Sony Personal Imaging and Sound Business group president Masashi Imamura has revealed that Sony wants to compete with the likes of Fujifilm's recently-launched Real 3D W1. The first consumer 3D camera to come from Sony is expected to be of the DSLR variety.

In the same interview, Imamura said Sony will expand its partnership with Carl Zeiss for supplying lenses for Sony's upcoming mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Exactly when a point-and-shoot 3D camera from Sony or a mirrorless, Carl Zeiss-lens equipped camera are due remains to be seen, however. [via DPReview]
