Devices offer new 1.2GHz CPU
LaCie on Tuesday introduced updates to it d2, 2big and 5big network-attached storage (NAS) systems. Version 2 of each device features a new 1.2GHz CPU for improved data transfer rates of up to 70 MB per second. Users can now take advantage of a widget-based interface from most web browsers, while the software will automatically search for updates. The company has also added a USB interface to each system.
The 2big and 5big systems feature hot-swappable drives arranged in a RAID 1 array for protection against data loss, with the 5big capable of RAID 6 configuration. The 5big also provides an extra LAN port which supports load balancing or link aggregation, while uninterrupted power supplies (UPS) and iSCSI are also supported.
The d2 Network 2 is available in capacities ranging from 1TB to 2TB, with prices starting at $230, while the 2big Network 2 ships with 2TB to 4TB of storage for prices as low as $400. The 5big Network 2 starts at $700 and can be purchased with capacities from 2.5TB to 10TB.
