Project Natal to be out in October?

Microsoft's Project Natal gesture-control interface may be out sooner than originally expected, according to BBC presenter Jonathan Ross. Ross posted on his Twitter account on Monday afternoon after spending some 'hands-on' time (viewable below) with an Xbox and the interface, saying it's "not quite there yet" but that Microsoft has until October to get it right. In response, Microsoft remains tight-lipped, saying only that the originally announced date is when Project Natal is coming.

Officially, the technology isn't due until Christmas, but there has been a report to the contrary. The technology relies on a camera to detect a player's entire body movement. It recognizes the position and movement of limbs and posture, with the ability to distinguish between active players and those in the background. A microphone is part of the setup and recognizes voice commands to create a hands-free gaming interface.

The hardware and software bundle should change its name by the time it launches, and pricing thus far is pegged at about $80. [via MCV]
