Interactive service tested during MMA program

Verizon on Thursday announced that FiOS TV subscribers will now be able to access Showtime Sports Interactive content. The new service uses the Enhanced TV Binary Interchange Format (EBIF) to bring interactive on-screen widgets to certain sports shows. Initial offerings will include boxing and mixed martial arts events broadcast in HD resolution.

Viewers will be able to navigate to fighter stats, bios, ring records, trivia games, interactive polling, and fight calendars, among other features. All of the content is accessible after pressing the "OK" button on the remote control, without interrupting the program.

Showtime's "Strikeforce Challengers" MMA event, which airs on Friday at 11pm EST, will be the first to integrate the additional content.
