Palm webOS 1.4 update fixes, add-ons detailed
(Update: Sprint has inadvertently confirmed update plans) While the promised Palm webOS 1.4 update hasn’t yet surfaced as of Thursday, leaked info details the changes it will bring to handsets. It confirms known major details such as video recording capability, hooks support for the Adobe Flash 10.1 Beta for the Palm Pre, and a new Flash beta app for other handsets. The Universal Search now includes EAS (Exchange) GAL corporate address look up, while the application launcher now gives users more feedback. The Pre Button in the gesture area will now blink until a notification is acknowledged.
A number of smaller fixes revolve around addressing time zone and browser formatting bugs as well as the Sprint logo inaccurately displaying when the device is in roaming. Syncing with Bluetooth car kits should also be improved. Users can now transfer phonebooks, while phone and calendar performance will also be enhanced. Numbers can be dialed from directly inside the calendar, and custom alert sounds can be set for events.
E-mails can now be sorted by date, sender or subject, and phone numbers or e-mail addresses can be embedded via the contacts app. After e-mails are sent, users will be automatically returned to their inbox.
Otherwise, SMS messages can be forwarded straight to the e-mail inbox, and numbers can be dialed from the SMS chat session without having to launch contacts. Holding down a phone number will open a window from which users can text message or call the number. [via PreCentral]
Update: Sprint accidentally posted a message (since removed on its board that states the webOS 1.4 update will reach its Palm phones on Friday evening.

Sprint customers need only check their handset and wait for the update to be pushed over-the-air. If you can’t stand the wait, you can always manually check for the update by opening the app launcher and launching the” Updates” application which will detect, download, and install the update on your behalf.
