ASUS first with Optimus-based notebooks in the US
ASUS is the first to offer notebook PCs with NVIDIA's Optimus technology in the US. The 16-inch N61JV-X2 and 17.3-inch N71JV-X1 are now available for purchase, from Amazon and NewEgg, respectively.
The Optimus switchable graphics solution can go from integrated to dedicated graphics in as little as 300ms while the system is active and logged in. The dedicated hardware in question is the same NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M chipset with 1GB of RAM and Intel's HD integrated GPU in either notebook.
Otherwise, the N61 packs a more powerful processor in the form of Intel's 2.53GHz Core i5, whereas the N71 has a 2.26GHz Core i3. Specs such as 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, DVD writer and Windows 7 Home Premiums are the shared by the pair, however.
The price is also nearly identical, at about $900 for either system. [via Laptoping]
