PS3 issues clear up ahead of GMT
(Update: confirmation below) Multiple PS3 owners have told Electronista tonight that Sony's major PS3 failures appear to be resolving. Those both in the UK and North America have said they can now reconnect to PSN and play games whose trophy and DRM systems depended on the connection. Sony itself hasn't given the all-clear.
The exact reasons behind the flaw still haven't been made public, but the return to form appears to be coming somewhat ahead of midnight GMT, indicating that the rollover to March 2nd by itself wasn't a fix. Sony has acknowledged the issue relates to the internal clock on the PS3 but also hasn't addressed rumors that it revolved around the ability to handle 2010 as a non-leap year.
Only consoles based on the original, full-size PS3 design have been affected. Slim 120GB and 250GB models have had full PSN and game access since the outages began Sunday night.
Update: Sony confirms the end to the problems as well as their nature. The bug incorrectly flagged 2010 as a leap year and switched to a non-existent February 29th. Anyone with continued problems can move the time manually to try and avoid the glitch.
