Intel, Orange team on MeeGo apps

MeeGo apps coming from Orange, Intel
Chipmaker Intel and UK wireless provider Orange on Wednesday said they are collaborating on bringing multimedia services to MeeGo OS devices powered by Intel's Atom processors. The two companies will bring Orange services such as Orange TV, Orange Maps and more to MeeGo-powered devices. Because of the many different devices it's on, an app store is likely to be launched to provide these services.
The open-source MeeGo OS is the product of the merger between the Linux-based Mobiln and Maemo software announced at the recent Mobile World Congress expo. MeeGo is used on smartphones, small tablet PCs and some netbooks.
Timelines for the integration of the Orange services, be they via a downloadable app or otherwise, have not yet been defined. Earlier, Intel and Nokia promised apps written for the new mobile OS will be available both through Nokia's Ovi Store and Intel's AppUp Center.
The LG GW990 (pictured) is expected to be the first handset with the MeeGo OS.
