ASUS shows dual-band, ultra-thin, chic router

Among other product displays shown off by ASUS at CeBIT is this fashionably designed and ultra-thin RT-N56U Wi-Fi router. Despite the reveal, ASUS is not forthcoming with technical details, saying only the router operates on either the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, had dual-band support and can be used to send data to wireless printers and scanners.

ASUS also promises fast performance, with 300,000 concurrent sessions available. As with other ASUS routers, the RT-N56U has the company's exclusive EZ UI interface which eases setup.

In typical ASUS fashion, pricing, market availability or ship dates were not revealed. [via Gizmodo]

    Wow

That thing's ugly. Might work as a bookend, though.

    It looks great

I think the photo probably doesn't do it justice. I'd want to see it in the dark

    STOP THE PRESSES!

IT SENDS DATA TO WIFI PRINTERS AND WIFI SCANNERS?!

Seriously. Who cares? My wifi router sits in a closet next to the cablemodem where the network cables and other comms stuff originate. I don't look at it unless I'm diagnosing a problem and even that usually just results in simply unplugging and plugging in the router and cablemodem.

No reason for it to take up desk space.

I notice that the picture implies that there are 4 ethernet ports. I'll tell you right now, that thing'll tip over because of the torque/pressure of the cables unless that base is real heavy or the angle of the pic is hiding a big ugly box in the back in which case the thin part is just the (probably highly directional) antenna.

My original space ship looking apple airport had the best range...
