Sony announces pricing, dates for 3D TVs in Japan

Sony will begin releasing its 3D-enabled HDTVs this June in Japan, which will coincide with the launch of a firmware update for the PS3 that will enable the gaming console to play back 3D content. Introduced at CES, there will be three ranges of the TVs, including the LX900, HX900 and HX800. The LX900 will include two pairs of 3D glasses, necessary to view 3D content.

Otherwise, each pair of 3D glasses will cost the equivalent of about $130, while a necessary transmitter will cost roughly another $56. Apart from black, the glasses will also be offered in blue and pink.

As for the sets themselves, the flagship 60-inch LX900 will cost the equivalent of about $6,500, while the 52-inch version will cost about $4,800. Both are due out on July 16th. A 46- and 40-inch version will ship earlier, on June 10th, priced at about $3,900 and $3,200, respectively. The LX900s will have a proximity sensor that will trigger a warning before shutting the TV off when it detects people coming within 3 feet of the display, preventing eye damage for young viewers that get too close.

The HX900 contains 52- and 46-inch models, each priced at $5,200 and $4,300, in that order. The 46-inch HX800 costs $3,100 and the 40-inch HX800 costs $2,400. All four ship on July 16th.

Common to all of the TVs are 1080p resolutions and 240Hz speed panels. There are four HDMI inputs, a VGA input, a USB, and an Ethernet connection.
US pricing and release dates are unknown.

Samsung's 3D TVs, also announced today, will be slightly cheaper, ranging from $2,000 for a 40-inch C7000 to $7,000 for the flagship, 65-inch C9000. [via Impress]
