Apple to take orders at regular morning timeframe

Apple tonight confirmed that tomorrow's iPad pre-orders will start on the Apple Store at 8:30AM Eastern. Initial orders are limited to the US and are likely to be limited to the Wi-Fi only version launching in the country on April 3rd.

The tablet is due to ship in 3G versions and internationally only in late April, and is more likely to see preorders start closer to respective ship dates. Apple is expected to have retail launches in all areas for both its own stores as well as premium resellers like Best Buy, but cellular carriers aren't thought to be getting the option of carrying the iPad themselves. Cue the iSheeple

A media frenzy of those who can't wait to parade their new shiny Apple product at the trendiest of coffee houses, libraries, shopping malls, and anywhere else they can be seen with the latest Jobsian status symbol.

    Sad.

    Sheeple?

Looks like someone took their bitter pill this morning.

I think it's funny that people have this idea of Apple zealots being "Sheeple". For decades we were looked at as a non-relevant fringe group of silly computer users. Now that our loyalty, which helped maintain a company that has always produced superior products, is being validated by the marketplace - WE are now apparently the conformists. Go figure.

I'd like to know what day online orders will start showing up on doorsteps; since the official launch day of April 3rd is a Saturday — and day before is a holiday for most people — it's hard to know if they'll start showing up April 1st or not until the following week.

    Cue the Leaders, Too

Also cue the early adopters who recognize and enjoy taking the lead by embracing quality products that set new standards of usability and raise the bar for an industry where innovation should be rampant but instead has been overrun by mediocre players who can't even operate a copy machine that produces a truly competitive product.

Gatesian pathetic distant also-ran product to arrive in a few months/years.

    Extremely sad.

The 3G + WiFi Model will be up for preorder too

From the Apple press release announcing the start of preorders for the iPad:

"Beginning a week from today, on March 12, US customers can pre-order both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store (www.apple.com) or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store."

    From http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/03/05ipad.html

So the 3G version will be available for preorder tomorrow, even though it won't ship until the end of April.

    Order Arrivals

    Cory ...

I have a choice between driving 90 minutes to pick one up on reserve at my nearest Apple Store or having it shipped to me so I called Apple to ask about that very same question. The representative assured me that online orders will be delivered on Saturday April 3rd, even after I pointed out those same issues.

So while that probably means I'll be disappointed when it doesn't arrive until Monday the 5th, if it appears that their carrier (FedEx) will deliver on Saturday, I'm most likely going to order it for home delivery.

Perhaps a few more of you good folks could call and confirm this too - and help drive home the point that if it's released on April 3rd, we want it on April 3rd!

    I predict...

I predict every unit will be sold and they will not be able to make enough, allowing them to lower the price and kill off most of the competition while improving features. Brilliant.

One does not exclude the other. You can be a non-relevant fringe group and sheep at the same time. "Sheep" does not mean being conformist, it means following along with wherever the shepherd (i.e. Apple) points you.

Now that our loyalty, which helped maintain a company that has always produced superior products,

Now talk about a zealot comment (or is it a sheeple comment?). Apple has NOT always produced superior products. Shall we talk about the Powerbook 5300? How about the Mac Portable? The Macintosh IIvi? The iBook G3? How about OS 7.0? 7.5? 7.5.1? 7.5.2? 7.5.4?

Apple makes some good products. They make some great products. But they have not always made superior products.
