Hott shows 4.8-inch Android tablet with $92 price
Chinese personal electronics maker Hott was showing off a 4.8-inch touchscreen tablet at CeBIT that runs on Android and is powered by an ARM9 Rockchip-based processor. Hott claims comprehensive video playback support, including 720p HD videos, though no HDMI output is present. The screen's resolution of 800x480 cannot support HD resolutions, however, so the unnamed device would need an external display to perform this feat.
The device runs on Android 1.5, and includes access to Android Market, Gmail, Google Maps and other widgets over a Wi-Fi connection. Internal storage capacity can range from 512MB to 16GB. A microSD memory card slot is built-in along the side, which also sees several navigation buttons. A maximum of 5 hours of battery life is also claimed.
As can be seen in the video below, the tablet is more compact than the Archos 5 it has been compared to, even though the Archos uses only a slightly larger 5-inch screen.
Hott is open to sell the device to OEMs, as well as branding it on its own, though when it may come to market is unknown. Mass production is set to begin in April and Hott projects a price of just $92 in bulk quantities with 512MB of memory preloaded. [via ARMdevices]
