Samsung WP7 device, others to get high specs
Microsoft as part of a MIX10 talk on hardware specs revealed that Samsung will be one of the key companies making a Windows Phone 7 handset. The company's key mobile UI architect, Joe Belfiore, showed it as only the third known device other than the ASUS reference model and the LG slider. He didn't provide hard data for the touch-only Samsung but did hint at a "bright" (likely AMOLED) screen and a large, "terrific" camera.
Belfiore did provide a clue as to the minimum hardware for the first round of WP7 devices. Every phone has to have at least an ARM7-, Cortex- or Scorpion-based processor as well as a DirectX 9-class graphics core. They also need a minimum 5-megapixel camera, 256MB of RAM, and 8GB of internal storage; they should also have sensors for acceleration, compass direction, light and proximity. At least a 480x320 screen is needed, but 800x480 is the only other option.
At least some of the new phones are expected to show in late 2010 and, at least in LG's case, may come as soon as September. [via SlashGear]
